29th December 2009

Woke up late this morning as we have no carers, I think we must have all needed the sleep after the hectic Christmas we have had. This morning after a lazy breakfast I set about packing for our holiday which starts tomorrow.

I then made my way to the paypoint to top up gas and electric meters so we have more than enough to see us through until our return, it was then off to the petrol station to fill up with diesel and check the oil and tyre pressures too.

The weather has been wet and very dark it has been a little sleety but as yet none of the snow they had forecast for us. I do feel it is getting colder so it is possible we shall have some at a point in the day. I am sort of hoping we don't as I do not fancy the idea of driving in snow and ice conditions especially heading towards Minehead. Over the quantocks especially.

Our friend came and took the children out for a few hours giving me and Mrs W some time to ourselves, however that said she went to bed leaving me in the living room ironing and washing clothes so we have an empty washing basket to come home too, I have even vacuum cleaned the house too.

I have been outbid several times on Ebay for an x box360 I am trying to purchase for our daughters birthday, I am beginning to think I am being stalked on there to prevent me buying one. Trouble is I am only being outbid last minute by £1-3 each auction I try. At the rate I am going I might as well just go and buy it in the shops, I am not really saving much trying on Ebay. While Writing this I have just successfully won a system for her, at just over my original bid, but at least we have one for her birthday, hope it arrives in time now!!

28th December 2009

Well I can safely say we have had a great Christmas so far, yesterday I managed to flatten the cardboard into one large box, I took 3 carrier bags of glass bottles and 1 black bag of plastic bottles to the recycling point, the grey wheeled bin is full and I have 2 black bags of rubbish that will not fit, despite standing in the grey bin!. The bins are not collected until Wednesday and I fear we could see more rubbish in the mean time. A television we placed out side to be taken away has been duly taken but the computer monitor remains. Cannot have it all I guess.

Despite being a bank holiday today, we have a carer coming in to help Mrs W have a shower and wash. The domestic carer has not been and will not be into our house until the new year now. It has meant that I have had to add domestic duties to my already busy day. Mind you it does not take long. The children are assisting a little even if putting up resistance at times.

We have tonight and tomorrow here then we are due to head to Minehead again to Butlins for the second time in the last few days, this time to see in the new year with our friends. However the weather forecasters are predicting heavy snow for our region tonight and tomorrow, this usually ends up in traffic chaos and closed roads. As lovely as the snow is I hope it does not spoil our plans. I will do my utmost to get the family to Minehead. Also I have to try my hardest to carry out our plans as our friends are already there having lefy yesterday to start their holiday a few days earlier than ourselves.

27th December 2009

Woke up this morning after having a rather late night, well to be honest it was more of an early morning with our guests and us going to bed at 1.30am. Had to get up early as our guests are heading off to Butlins for a few days prior to us joining them to see the new year in down there.

They left around noon. Mrs W went for her afternoon nap and I sat watching films with the children. My son wanted a game for his Playstation 3, it was however and eighteen rated game so I had to buy it for him. All his friends have the game so I found it hard to say no to him having it.

We have been trying to catch up on the washing and the mountain of dishes and pans from the countless meals we have had over the last few days, seems to be mostly what we have done, is eat and drink.

But I have to say I am longing for some "normal" food now, too much gammon, turkey, beef, pickles and such like now.

My camera memory card somehow seems to have caught a virus, I managed to catch it with a virus checker, but not without losing some valued pictures taken over the year. Some of Christmas too, luckily our guests took some from me before they left so I am able to recover most if not all of them.

Tomorrow is another holiday, means much more food and drinking I guess. Still on the upside, I have maintained my weight and have not put any on, despite the variety and quantity we seemed to have consumed.

25th - 26th December 2009

Had a smashing time over the festive period of Christmas day, as well as boxing day. Christmas was lots of eating and drinking far too much. Lots of merriment was had during the day, watched television and opened presents. I had a little too much of the old merry water and fell asleep on the sofa, first time in ages I have done that. I let the Cockatiel out and then an age was spent trying to convince it that it was a good idea to go back into its cage. The recycle bins are all over flowing. I agree that it makes a difference but it is a right pain in the butt. Especially when the collections are all messed up.

Boxing day is a much more relaxed and chilled out day, still lots of food, drinking and laughs, myself Mrs W, Children and and guests seem rather lethargic today too. Infact one of our guests and Mrs W have both gone for a lay down leaving me with the children and the remaining guest.
Cannot believe the food we have consumed and how well the alcohol is going, well I can actually.
The snow and ice have all gone, good news for wheelchair users as Mrs W tends to get house bound when the snow lays on the ground for too long. The last lot of snow in February saw her housebound for ages! Just hope that the weather holds off until after we return from our Butlins trip on the 30th for seeing in new year down there with our friends who have spent Christmas with us. The are leaving tomorrow so we have a few days of calm before meeting up with them down there.

24th December 2009

Can't believe after all the preparation and hype we are one sleep away from Christmas day. We had a late night last night with our guests, plenty of drink flowing and watching television. That meant a late start to today as a result.

We all had a civilised tea and toast, then during the morning we sat round talking and watching television. Lunch was warm rolls with pork as well as they usual Christmas nibbles. The guests sat with myself and the children watching television and drinking Christmas drinks while the children sat on their laptops, but at least they are in the same room for a change. Mrs W had her regular afternoon nap.

My guests and I will share the cooking duties and we have worked out the food arrangements and planned cooking times like a military operation everything taken care of down to gravy timing and serving.

Tonight will be sat in front of the television watching the countless number of television feasts that seem to re emerge every year with a splattering of new programmes to make us feel it is worth paying the licence fee each year.

I have also spent some quality time talking to my friends new and old on twitter, I am seriously loving the interaction, the friendliness and the humour it brightens up my day. Incase I forget to write my blog tomorrow.

I would like to take the opportunity to wish all of you who read my blog. A very merry Christmas and a very prosperous and healthy new year.!!!!

23rd December 2009

This morning the carers came in, the last time before and over Christmas for the domestic carer, but the personal carer will be here on the 28th December next. The house was cleaned and I managed to get to morrisons as soon as it opened, it was still busy though but I avoided the masses. I nearly had a collision at a junction on the way there. I stopped and the car carried on, I had hit a patch of black ice.

The afternoon I was able to catch up on the washing clearing the pile in time for our guests, they now have chairs to sit on during their stay. Our son has agreed to move out of his room and share with his sister for a few days, sleeping on a mattress on the floor. So our guests have somewhere comfortable to sleep too.

I went to the local shops to top up our gas and electric meters with credit, on my way down I fell over on the ice, not once but twice in quick succession I am glad nobody had a camera to hand too.

Our children have been taken away for the afternoon by my brother in law and his wife to see a film called Avatar a completely 3D movie. don't know who was more excited about going to see it either !!

22nd December 2009

Well the snow has lasted into yet another day, the sun has shone most of the day and the thaw has begun, I suspect the next problem for many will be flooding as a result of the thaw.

I have had a lazy day, wandering round nearby village and park land taking pictures of the snow scenery. The afternoon was spent posting them to my facebook page

Feel fee to take a peek at them too. I have spent the day catching up with holiday washing and watching repeats of Christmas television shows including the ever funny only fools and horses and keeping up appearances to name a few.

The evening will be spent much the same I suspect and in the company of my brother in law and his wife. The have come home from Wales for Christmas and are popping in for a drink and a chat.

Tomorrow sees our Christmas start with the arrival of friends who are staying with us for the festivities of Christmas day. We shall share the duties of cooking as we are both carers looking after disabled partners. It will make things alot easier for us both.

Monday, 21 December 2009

20th December 2009 - 21st December 2009

Had another smashing day at Butlins, lots of daytime and afternoon entertainment, lots of time spent on the 2p money falls. With myself winning several cheap and useless keyrings as well as some pin badges for my growing collection.

The afternoon we was one of our all time favourite acts at Butlins that was Titan the robot. Amazing. This time he came over to me and sung "you can leave your hat on" as I was wearing my Santa hat. Much too the children's amusement.

The evening was spent watching an all cast performance about Christmas, I was all cast, not all star cast, although there were a few stars, including Father Christmas and other characters.

Glad to hear that X factor finalist is not the number one this Christmas too, we heard that while in the venue last night. Much to the Redcoats delight and the children's dismay, oh the power of the facebook and other social networking sites, power to the people !!!!!

Back home today, we left Butlins and it was cold with a very slight dusting like icing sugar of snow on the ground. As we headed home it got colder and colder as well as whiter and whiter.

There is around 2 inches of snow on the ground here as opposed to a light dusting we had in Minehead.

The day was spent washing the mountain of holiday clothes, while watching festive films on television. No mystery visits until tomorrow morning, then that will be my lot until after Christmas I reckon.

Sunday, 20 December 2009

19th December 2009

Woke up and had the obligatory fried breakfast from the buffet service restaurant, the full works to line the stomaches for another fun filled day here at Butlins. The morning was spent in the skyline with the arcade machines and the children were on the spot for pin badges to swap and add to their ever growing collections.

The afternoon was panto fun, yes it was, the panto was goldilocks and the three bears, at one point the cast just started adlibbing as they had forgotten their lines following a random shout out from one small girl at the front. They soon turned it round and made it part of the performance and it was on with the show.

Evening meal was once again very nice with a wide range of food to tempt even the fussiest of eaters, it was warm and well presented too surprisingly.

The evening we were then sat in one of the show bars watching the gunge show followed by a tribute band the pussycat babes they were very good even our children liked them.

Later in the evening we found ourselves with no children as they headed for bed, myself and Mrs W walked around the resort on our way back to the accomodation then headed to bed ourselves, I wonder what the next dawning day will bring?

Saturday, 19 December 2009

18th December 2009

We left Bristol and boy was it damn cold, we travelled down the motorway to Minehead Butlins. We arrived after a pleasant journey not many other cars on the road meant we made good time, we arrived and the seafront was windswept, sand blowing everywhere, we gave the front a miss and headed straight into resort.

Once in resort we were able to enter the accommodation straight away most unusual as we usually have to wait to gain entry into the rooms. The accommodation was warm bright and welcoming and very clean too.

We were given complimentary mulled wine, mince pies and chestnuts too as well as receiving a complimentary selection pack for the children too. needless to say I took the offer of free mulled wine but I declined the mince pie, my children ate mine.

We were well impressed with the dining area and the menu choice in the evening too, something for even the fussiest of eaters, after dinner we headed to one of the show venues and took in the delights on offer, mainly a very child friendly show followed by some great live music performance. Myself and Mrs W loved it as it was music from our time!.

17th December 2009

Well, what can I say about to day, today the 17th December, 16 years ago I married Mrs W that was the day it all began the family, my life as it is now. Would I change anything, probably not. I have had many good times and a few bad and worrying times, but at the end of the day we have managed to overcome so much adverse times together I feel this makes us somewhat stronger.

We did not do much to celebrate, but we did have the usual gift exchanges, in the evening we had champagne and a pizza. The children had a small glass and pizza with us.

The rest of the day was pretty much as usual to be honest. School run and post office, as well as shopping and preparing for our short trip to Butlins which starts for the weekend. We figured it would be nice to stay home this Christmas but to help unwind we would have a break away prior to it. So today has been a day of celebration and preparation for the weekend away, I filled the car with diesel, topped up the gas meter and electric meter with credit, checked the oil in the car and also tyre pressure too. Used up any food that needed using or threw some away or gave it to the birds etc.

The day also saw the first snow of the year to hit us here in Bristol, not a great deal but it still caused a flurry of activity on facebook and twitter with many varying responses to its arrival.

Wednesday, 16 December 2009

16th December 2009

This morning was chaos on the roads on the school run, there was an accident on the M32 which caused much problems for a lot of people, police sometimes make things worse by their presence and actions I reckon, I still maintain that motorists would be better of self managing in certain situations. It took me and hour and thirty minutes for a 45 minute round trip usually, that also usually includes a visit to the supermarket.

The carers came in as usual and carried out their usual tasks. My sleep last night was again interrupted by several rather large coughing spells due to my chest and throat infection. So am feeling very drained today, considered sleeping on the settee last night as I was not getting any sleep up in bed. Also thought it was unfair to keep Mrs W awake, but she told me to get into bed as it would be warmer. Best to do as I was told I thought.

Had a chippy lunch today, jumbo sausage and chips as well as a buttered roll to make a chip butty .

Tonight will be a night of the usual television viewing as well as having some friends round for a drink.

Must be mindful of my food and drink intake over Christmas, I do not want to undo all my hard work over the last few months or so. But I still want to have a good time with everyone else.

Tuesday, 15 December 2009

15th December 2009

Woke up after a very annoying and sleepless night due to constant coughing and wheezing from my asthma, the chest infection has a tight hold of me and I am aches and pains all over today. I am feeling the cold at the slightest breeze too.

Today saw the usual post office run for the parcels as well as the school run and a trip to the supermarket for everyday provisions. I have even started saving with one of them for Christmas 2010 would you believe. I have also purchased two large money tins, to enable me to save my £2 coins and this year I am saving 20p pieces too, I figured would not be missed in my everyday life and would both mount up considerably over a year. I can then put the cash towards next Christmas in 2010 as we plan a holiday over the festive period how it will work out I do not know, watch this space.

Last night I went to the doctor and was given steroids and antibiotics for my chest and throat infection. While there they checked my blood pressure and weight, good news despite the festive season, so far I have not put weight on and my blood pressure is normal. I need to go back in the new year for a further assessment and care plan if needed.

I have basically done as little as possible today while trying to stay warm and inside to aid recovery of my chest infection.

Monday, 14 December 2009

14th December 2009

The morning was quiet, school run and then shops for some groceries. Mrs W had her carers in as usual and they both showed up on time. Mrs W went out with her carer shopping for some last minute items for Christmas using money she had managed to save at Asda using their savings card.

While Mrs W was out I was able to rest on the sofa after taking some medication for my cough and chest and throat infection, I now have a temperature too, typical, right on Christmas party season and I feel lousy!.

We had a mystery dining visit to carry out at lunch time, it was very good and we are considering going back as a none assignment dining experience.

The afternoon I sat and filed my report and watch more festive movies on Sky then it was time for the school run, the days are flying by the nearer we get to Christmas, they just do not seem to last as long.

Today seems to have been a little lack lustre following yesterdays joyfulness and celebrations at football and again at our family Christmas buffet.

Sunday, 13 December 2009

13th December 2009

Woke up extra early this morning following a bad night sleep, coughing and tossing and turning. Totally gave up trying to sleep and didn't want to wake MrsW up. This morning I had to take daughter to football as usual only after the match, which they won. Only a good thing as it puts them another step closer to winning their league for the third year running. There was a presentation and drinks in the clubhouse where we all swapped presents and said farewell to one of the girls who is leaving the team to head back to Canada where she lives.

The afternoon saw the family round here for a family gathering, swapping of presents and much merriment with me dressing in my Santa outfit. pictures here on my facebook page.

The evening has been one of tidying and relaxing, still suffering with my cold and a rather annoying cough, at least my streaming nose has stopped. I have had a few whisky and lemonades during the afternoon too, which is purely medicinal of course.

I spent a short while balancing the team subs, loading some pictures to the girls football face book page too.

Saturday, 12 December 2009

12th December 2009

Went to visit my mum and nan as usual this morning, woke up feeling like death, typical in the run upto Christmas I feel like shit warmed up. Sore throat, headache sneezing and generally drained, no it is not a hangover either, I have a temperature to boot.

After visiting the family I went shopping. Firstly to Morrisons. Manic as ever but seemed more so than usual. The staff were stressing and trying to keep the shelves stacked in some circumstances failing miserably, especially in the wines and spirits section where there seemed to be large gaps in the shelves.

So I ended up going to the Co-Op as well, not everything I wanted was available in Morrisons. But I found not one bottle of Cider in the Co-Op either!! I cannot have drunk that much surely!. Anyone would think Christmas was coming or something.

While driving I noticed a marked increase in Police patrols too, in one way reassuring in another scary. It is a shame that some people have to spoil things for people by causing accidents by drink driving and such like.

We were going to go to a Christmas festival called Christmas on the hill this afternoon, but as I seem to progressively be getting worse throughout the day I felt it was madness to stand in the cold for too long for the privilege of watching a parade and hearing Christmas music played by bands, after all I have to stand out in the cold tomorrow while my daughter plays football, secretly I am praying we have a rain storm or lots of snow over night so the match is cancelled, I do not usually think like that about football. Tomorrow I have all the family coming round so we can swap presents and such like so really could do with the time spent at football to prepare the buffet foods. After the football match is a party for the team too, I can only stay a short while and I have already told the coach that. I have to go as I need to hand out the girls presents, cards and also try and get upto date with their subs too. Why did I get volunteered for the job of treasurer ?.

Friday, 11 December 2009

11th December 2009

Well here we are, only 14 sleeps until Christmas, what a grey, foggy and cold day it has been today. The coldest here by far this year I reckon.

The heating has been in full mode all day, the carers came and helped Mrs W with care and domestic duties, while they were here I popped out and browsed the charity shops for items that might make a profit on Ebay, found a few items, but not many, purchased some envelopes from the local £1 store to enable me to post the items off too.

The squirrels that were regular visitors have returned to the feeding table, I can only assume the food they had elsewhere has dried up or something, the table has been a hive of activity today. The dew left by the fog has made for some interesting photos today too.

I captured a spider web covered in dew, I think it shows its amazing creation in glorious mode, I reckon dew is the equivalent to our HD viewing!

Spent the afternoon sat watching television and this evening we have a quiet night in front of the telly too, following last nights outing to an Indian restaurant which was very disappointing in service and quality of food, I feel sorry for my brother in law. He was forced to have a debate with the manager of the restaurant, following a series of mishaps and misunderstandings on the part of the staff, I have to say if I was mystery visiting the location it would have scored poorly based on last night.

The food was cold, the staff seemed in a hurry and most unfriendly too at times. I felt it spoilt the evening for my brother in law, but I intend to try and make up this weekend as we are having all the family round for a pre Christmas buffet family tea, a tradition I started several years ago when we started going away over Christmas. I started going away for several reasons. mainly all the arguments that arise from arranging who is going where on Christmas day, usually involving me driving here there and everywhere. I detest being the only driver in the family our side that is always expected to do the running so, we made a choice not to be in Bristol at Christmas, this year however we are home, but we have friends staying with us who we met through a carers forum, so we shall both have our disabled partners to care for but we can share the work involved. A good solution to a massive problem for carers over Christmas we reckon. Next year though we are going away.

Thursday, 10 December 2009

10th December 2009

This morning has been dry and sunny, the first in a long while that I can remember. There are no mystery visits, no audits again today, I took a trip to the post office this morning and then onto the bank, after which I browsed the charity store, there seems to be very little in stores at the moment. I hope it will improve after Christmas. I am relying on Ebay to help with the finances following the shortage of mystery visits and audits.

We went out for lunch, today we had a snack as this evening we are off to an Indian Restaurant for a meal as it is my brother in laws birthday, the only bonus that I can see of going is that I don't have to stand around watching my daughter play football during her practice session tonight, I cannot afford to go out, I detest Indian food and I cannot drink as I have to drive, what fun will it be? Yes I will be with family, but I just do not like the idea of a curry and my brother in law loves his food really hot and I feel a bit of a kill joy sticking with a plain omelette, but I just detest the spicy hot food, Mrs W and my son love it, but my daughter and I could well live without it. Why couldn't he had chosen a more friendly location like a Harvester, Beefeater or Pizza restaurant for his birthday meal. A good all round venue rather than somewhere that insists you have to blow your brain out.

The afternoon I have been a complete couch potato watching yet more festive films and filling myself with festive spirit, although it is proving difficult to do, I am so missing my father in law. Christmas always makes me think of him, he loved the festive time, he was much of the party at anyone's house. I can still hear his laugh and picture his face and hear his sayings in my head, he meant so much to me and so many other people around him, even to those who didn't really know him that well.

Wednesday, 9 December 2009

09th December 2009

The carers both showed today, so the personal care was taken care of as was the domestic duties, the house is now sparkling and clean, I am suffering with some kind of viral infection, hope I shift it soon, it is making me so tired, I have sore eyes, headache and sore throat too.

After the carers had been myself and Mrs W went to a local pub for lunch, 2 meals for £6.75. Amazing value and fantastic meals.

While one of the carers were here, I went to the post office and sent yet more parcels sold on EBay, and sent my last Christmas card, well last until I get one from someone I had not expected to get one from and as a result have not sent them one.

After lunch I have mostly sat on the settee watching television, mainly festive films, feeling well festive lately, cannot wait for our holiday, think it is just what I need, a break. Time out from the usual routine and humdrum.

The evening no doubt I will commit suicide, I have noticed more football for much of the night on television in place of the regular viewing. I hate it when they do that, just put it on another channel for goodness sake, there are enough channels to view it on, why spoil other peoples viewing by putting such crap on all the time as football and other sports. I am not interested, I pay my license and I want the usual viewing crap, not sport and football.

Tuesday, 8 December 2009

08th December 2009

Woke up this morning and thought it was still the middle of the night it was so dark and wet. Did the school run as usual, then off to Tesco for my everyday shopping. Myself and Mrs W went window shopping for Christmas candles and candle sticks as well as some wine glasses. Needless to say we spent far more than just window shopping.

After the shopping we went to Cabot Circus as I had a mystery visit to carry out, then it was off for some lunch. I had a voucher from facebook fan page for a chain of pubs entitling us to 2 meals for the price of 1. Have to say the meal was absolutely wonderful too. I can highly recommend the pie there.

The afternoon I went to have my hair cut as well as browse the charity shops, but there was nothing worthy of purchasing today.

The evening has been and will continue to be quiet watching the television. Do not see the children lately. They spend most if not all their time in the bedrooms on their laptops and Playstation consoles.

Monday, 7 December 2009

07th December 2009

Cannot believe we are nearing the end of yet another year, I have sent our Christmas cards, got all the food, presents and am ready for all the festive season. This morning the carer from one agency let us down again, meaning yet more domestic duties not carried out! the personal care agency arrived in a somewhat dark, damp, blustery day and we gave the regular carer her card and present. I am not sure the domestic agency deserve theirs!

This morning I had a mystery visit to a bank. The mystery visits are still thin on the ground. I am unable to rely on then for regular income, this is having a serious impact on our finances.

We went to Cadbury garden centre and browsed their range of decorations and trimmings, then went to a pub for lunch. I resisted the urge to buy many wonderful but over priced items at Cadbury.

Mrs W had her nap and I filed my report, I then had the school run to carry out and then came home.
The evening has been watching television, chatting and drinking, yes I am drinking again, but not to the excess I was. My weight is still stable at 9 stone, which is as it was a few months ago. since I started my diet it has decreased and remained at 9 stone. Not bad considering I weighed 11.5 stone when I was told to lose it, due to my blood pressure and cholesterol.

06th December 2009

Sunday, a day of leisure? whoever said that needs stringing up! I woke up early as Daughter has a football match. well she did, until it got cancelled again! thanks to the weather, we had so much rain during the night that the pitch was once again unplayable.

Lunchtime we had Mrs W's mum, she came around mid morning and I invited her to stay for some lunch, she only wanted a snack, but I managed to stretch out our chicken, veg and potatoes, she had a full roast dinner.

Sunday was also the football teams Christmas get together, they all met at the Mall Cribbs to enjoy and hour on their ice skating ring, some of the players took to it like ducks to water, others were like graceful ballerinas, some were like elephants clumsy and so ungraceful it was funny to watch, I got some great photos for their end of season presentation CD.

Not a good night for television or family viewing now, since i'm a celebrity has gone, there seems to be a void in viewing especially on Sunday nights. I cannot believe with hundreds of channels to pick from we struggled to find anything that, we had not seen, or wanted to see that appeared remotely interesting.

It seems that the winner of the program i'm a celebrity is being prosecuted by the Australian R.S.P.C.A too fgor cruelty to animals after cooking a rat live on show. Surely the program should be prosecuted, what abut the worms they eat, the hundreds of cockroaches they use and inevitably get killed or harmed during the trials. In my view a life is a life, even if it is a cockroach, spider, or worm. The whole saga seems a farce.

Saturday, 5 December 2009

05th December 2009

This morning, woke up, woke our son up and made Mrs W her breakfast as usual, ate mine and then got ready to do the usual Saturday morning visits to my nan and mum, I took my nan her Christmas present and card too, we also took some mince pies and some Jersey extra thick cream to go with them. After nan it was off to mum, my 4th cup of coffee was had there too. Feeling really hyper now as a result of the caffeine.

The afternoon saw me on my own as children were on their laptops upstairs and Mrs W had her afternoon nap, so what did I do? I watched all the Christmas films including Fred Clause. I love the Christmas films, with home alone being one of my best ever! was not so keen on the follow up home alone films.

This evening I have a mystery visit to a pub, guess I will have to have a drink again then, shame, but someone has to do it!. The mystery visits seem to be a bit thin on the ground at the moment, I think it is due to Christmas. I have also found out my contract with the mobile phone store has ended, I am no longer required to audit them, a loss of income I could well do with out, especially at this time of the year, it is a real blow to our finances. They say the audits have enabled them to improve customer service standards, store standards and business standing, as a result of our good work, we have put ourselves out of a job!! This just means I now have to accept any mystery visit to make up the short fall, I am not able to be as choosy as I was.

Friday, 4 December 2009

04th December 2009

This morning was cold and bright, the moon looked amazing in the early morning sky. I did the usual grocery shopping.I came home to find the carer is still off ill and has not come to do the domestic duties again, I hope she comes in on Monday as the place is starting to show signs of neglect. I have thought about picking up the duster and doing it myself, but that is as far as I have managed.

This morning I also had to go to the bank with the football subs too, I finally got it balanced and was able to bank it. I browsed the charity shops but found there was nothing suitable for reselling on EBay.

The afternoon will once again be quiet with Mrs W having her nap, then she has to go to the GP to have her ear syringed of wax, a regular event for her.

We are coming to the end of the regular family television viewing time, it has been nice they want to sit in the lounge with us watching i'm a celebrity get me out of here. No doubt as soon as the series has finished we shall no longer see the children in the evenings with exception of meal times that is.

03rd December 2009

A bit late with this blog, sorry, yesterday just seemed to run away with me. Didn't actually seem to get much done but seemed to be struggling for time if ya know what I mean?

The morning started off and I did the usual shopping, post office run and such like. We had lunch, which we opted for a take away from the local Chinese, it opened later than usual for some unexplained reason, not good as Mrs W had a hospital appointment in the afternoon and wanted her nap earlier so she would be strong enough for the appointment.

I collected the children after school and seemed to get stuck behind all the slow drivers, making me panic that I would not get back home in time to take Mrs W to the hospital, as it happens, we got to the hospital just on the allotted appointment slot.

The appointment lasted around 2 hours while she had various tests carried out to assess her mental aptitude and such like, of course the evening was football training night, I managed to rush home, make a quick cup of tea and bite to eat before rushing to get to training.

I had to secretly get the girls to sign the coaches Christmas cards too, that was a hard task, but I enlisted the help of my daughter, it was less suspicious, with her huddled with her team than me.

I came home and finally put my feet up at gone ten pm as after football I had to do the club banking and balance the money with various accounts for the varying occasions that I am collecting for.

02nd December 2009

This morning saw one of the carers show, the other failed to show due to illness, this meant Mrs W could not go shopping as usual much to her annoyance. However I took her to the shops instead, great fun, I hate it to be honest, especially this time of year and more so in January!

I also had a mystery visit to carry out in a major electrical store in Longwell green. While there we browsed some stores there, my how it has changed since I last went there, big name stores and very nice too, afterwards we went to a pub for a spot of lunch, followed by the usual routine of the afternoon nap for Mrs W and myself, sat writing the mystery visit report and packing items that have sold in readiness for the post office run which I did later today due to a busy start to the day and all the chaos that was caused by the lack of carer.

I am now awaiting delivery of the very final big shop in readiness for Christmas, I decided to register for Asda online shopping I cannot face all the queues, hustle and bustle that always ensues especially at Asda and more so at this time of the year, they are delivering between seven and nine this evening, I have cleared the freezer, well it did it for me by breaking down if you recall from my previous blog entry about it having broken and having to throw all our food away,it is looking a little bit sad stood in the corner with nothing in it, but it will earn its keep from tonight I am sure.

1st December 2009

Yay! it is here, the first day of advent and the final countdown until Christmas day and all the festivities. Opened the first day of the advent calendar today, well not me, the children did.

Went to Tesco and Co-Op and used my savings club money and purchased a stupid amount of food, now I am already for the big day all except for writing out the Christmas cards, a job to do tomorrow while Mrs W is in bed during the afternoon.

Came home and while waiting for our delivery from park hampers for the remainder of the presents some friends of ours turned up from Stroud, perfect timing as we could all go out for lunch, I took them to one of our favourite pubs nearby, they loved it, having driven passed it so many times, they have vowed to return to it and to treat us next time too, bonus I say!.

They stayed for a few hours drinking tea and coffee. Our daughter came home from school and I havent seen her since, she has been stuck in her bedroom on her new laptop that she paid for from park hampers with her paper round money. Not sure it was such a good idea, we do not see enough of them as it is, seems we will see even less of her and our son now!

30th November 2009

This morning it made a change to see the sun, no rain! The carer came to help Mrs W get ready for the day. I did the school run followed by a trip to the shops for groceries.
After the carers had been I took Mrs W to a local carvery, but prior to that I had a mystery shopping visit to a large supermarket in Bradley Stoke.

The afternoon saw me write up my report and list yet more unwanted items on EBay. My mum is keeping me busy with her items. The charity shops are also keeping me supplied, but they seem to be cashing in on the festive season and their prices seem to be increasing making my profit margins unobtainable to the extent they were.

The evening saw me shopping for Christmas hats at a local cheap store as I seem to have lost mine that I had for several years now. My daughter thought it was funny to make me wear the various ones and take photos of me wearing them. Bless the little darling.

I then had the evening task of emptying the dishwasher, clearing the dinner things, placing washing around the radiators followed by a relaxing evening with son and Mrs W watching i'm a celebrity get me out of here, which to be honest is proving to be a ITV fail with the celebrities just leaving the jungle with out being voted off by the public, I have to say I am now losing interest in it, having been an avid fan for years now. I feel let down by this series.

29th November 2009

Today has been a wash out. No football again due to the weather!. no car boot sale, due to the weather. Not ventured out due to the weather too.

Well I did venture out briefly to buy a ready cooked chicken so we could have a Sunday roast with out all the preparation and such like. I purchased some frozen potatoes and vegetables. All I had to do was put them in the oven for 30 minutes. Make the gravy and stuffing. A cheats Sunday lunch. But a tasty one all the same.

The afternoon saw yet more rain and dark weather. So Mrs W went to bed and left myself and the children in the lounge watching a movie for the afternoon.

The evening we shall get the family time again watching I'm a celebrity get me out of here, not sure what we shall do once it has finished, hardly see the children now a days, they seem to have far to busy social lives. It is sickening really!. Makes me feel like billy no mates at times!!

28th November 2009

Woke up this morning, had breakfast, our son tells us that he does not want to come with us visiting my nan and mum as usual, he wanted to go into Bristol with his own friends, that is a first. I guess a sign he is wanting to do his own thing as he gets older!. kind of makes me feel a little sad too. It means he is looking to get his own wings somewhat more. I know he is only 15 and he probably has years left at home, but to be doing his own thing makes me feel old!.

Anyway after the remainder of us visiting the family as usual, it was back home to sort out the post, make some lunch and pay some bills as well as post a few at the post office. The afternoon saw Mrs W napping and our Son was still out with his mates, Daughter was upstairs on the gaming machine. I sat and watched some Christmas film on Television. Feels empty when nobody here.

This evening we have a family party to go to. I am not a big fan of parties, especially with loud music, I do not dance and never have been able too ever since I was younger. I was told I was dancing like I was in the 70's by a DJ at the school disco, since then I have not danced ever. The loud music makes it impossible to chat too.

27th November 2009

The carer came in early and helped Mrs W get ready for the day, I did the school run and shopping as usual, came home put the kettle on for Mrs W made her loads of cups of tea as usual through the morning and the rest of the day. I went to the post office and posted EBay goodies. Then banked the football subs. Pretty exciting hey?! ..... No I know, pretty dull, that is my life boring and dull, Just like the weather lately.

Went out for lunch with Mrs W. Managed to get another voucher making it very cheap yet again. It is cheaper than cooking at home sometimes I think. By the time you factor in energy time etc etc.

Then picked the children from school and came home. Ventured into the attic to retrieve the Christmas lights and trimmings that remained. To my surprise the lights all worked, not one blown bulb, not one tangled cable and no bad language was needed in the erecting of the trimmings and lights too, it was a pretty stress free event, unusual. We usually turn the air blue with swear words and such. Why can you put them away neatly, go up there a year later and they look like they have done three rounds with Joe Bugner!

The house is now in all it's glory and ready for Christmas. Every window has festive lights in it, the lounge is trimmed, the hallway is trimmed and the landing too. It looks like a real Santas grotto!

Bring on Christmas. !!

26th November 2009

Today started off very wet, I did then school run and then went shopping, purchased yet more items for Christmas period. There were no carers, no mystery visits and no store audits today, infact many of them seem to have dried up, or at least the ones I favour have, I notice this every Christmas period, I presume it is because it is busy and they figure service timings etc would be way out of the norm and therefore our opinion does not matter during this time.

Lunchtime saw myself and Mrs W off to a pub for lunch, a two for one deal at a local pub makes it very affordable too.

The evening saw the usual Thursday night football training for my daughter, which meant the usual account keeping for me, I am now not only collecting the subs, but, I am collecting for Christmas presents for the coach, as well as Ice Skating money for the team at the Mall Cribbs too.
Many of the parents are getting used to my way of doing things, which is making collecting easier for me. I just not keen on having all the responsibility for such large amounts of money, I figure if I do not do it then nobody else will, so better to do it for the sake of the team.

25th November 2009

Well here we are with 30 days to go until the big C ( I refer to Christmas day of course) over the next few days we shall be placing lights in the windows of the house, trimming the remaining of the house and basically just waiting for all the fun to kick off!

This morning I had to take the car for it's very first m.o.t and service, we will be getting our new car soon so I hope all is well with this one or it could delay the handover period for the new car. We were given a courtesy car, however they forgot to give the car a big enough boot space for a wheelchair, so the chair had to go on the back seats so we could go out, good job the children are at school I reckon.

We went out window shopping today, after the carers had been and helped Mrs W get ready for the day, one however arrived some forty five minutes late so only managed half an hour of house work, before we had to go out. Not a brilliant advert for carers agencies!

What am I going to do tonight there is no I'm a celebrity get me out of here on television tonight due to some crumby football match, I really detest when they put sport on television and remove other regular programmes, there are enough channels that they should not have to do that. I pay my license fee and I do not want to watch such rubbish as sport. I really fail to see why this takes priority over everything else. !!!!!!!

24th November 2009

What a great day today has been, we were going to have a man from the council to call on us, but guess what, they failed to show, that is the second missed appointment in as many days, what is going on with everyone?

Then lunchtime myself and Mrs W went out for lunch at a two for one pub, I had the best ever pie and chips with a pint. We came home and Mrs W went to bed for the afternoon. I sat watching some Sci-fi movie on the Sci-fi channel. Went to collect the children from school and surprised them with a visit to The Mall Cribbs they have an ice ring, they had an hour skating which cost £5 each as it was off peak time. Prior to the skating they had a take away meal eldest our boy chose KFC and youngest chose a Mc Donalds.

We came home which took a short while as I think we caught the tail end of rush hour traffic. Sat and watched the evening television. Some pictures of Ice Skating here.

23rd November 2009

Well the family came home last night to find the tree and trimmings up and in all their glory last night, we woke up and the tree looked brilliant on this rather dull day, brilliant blue multi action lights really do brighten up the place, those and the trimmings all silver and blue too.

The carers both came in an were a gasped to see the tree up too. One made a groan, she did say. "Please do not do this to me". I just shrugged and said only 32 days to go. Got the children ready for school and left for the school run, the traffic was manic and there were plenty of rather large puddles to contend with along the route too, due to the excessive rain fall we have had recently.

After the school run it was time for a spot of shopping, not Christmas shopping but I did buy a bottle of Cinzano the first of the Christmas drink stock. I shall now buy an item every time I go shopping, that way I won't notice the cost so much.

The afternoon saw me sat wrapping all the Christmas presents, I am now officially done in that department, bought, wrapped and under the tree! I even have some spare in case somebody unexpected gives a gift and we had not got them anything. Be prepared I say, if they do not get used, they will come in handy for a birthday in 2010 or even next Christmas. A win win situation either way. Go here to see my Christmas and festive period pictures.

22nd November 2009

What a great day, first off we had to wait in all day for Currys to deliver the new Freezer. Fantastic timing as daughters football team has their match cancelled today, so I had nothing better to do, however they did say some time today, waited and waited then around 2.30pm we had a phone call, it was Currys, they were running ahead of schedule and would be with me within five minutes, I just sat down and they pulled up, funny five minutes. How would I know if you were ahead as I never got told what time you were coming in the first place!.

This afternoon, Mrs W and the children went to visit some of Mrs W's side of the family, it was already agreed that I was not going as the freezer was due at the time they were due to meet! great, home alone for the afternoon, I made an executive decision, I went up to the attic and retrieved the Christmas tree and some of the trimmings, I hung the trimmings, put the tree up and decorated it. Won't they be pleased when they come home!?

Yes you could say, Christmas has finally arrived at our place, there will be more and more trimmings, lights, tinsel and other animated objects in the next few weeks and the house could be seen from out of space in a couple of weeks time.

Saturday, 21 November 2009

21st November 2009

Well this morning started off good, I woke up early for a change which meant I could go and visit family as usual, on the way I had a mystery visit to a burger take away place, however we got a telephone call while getting ready to ask us not to call to one of the relatives, meaning we had time to kill, so we carried out the mystery visit, then went window shopping which ended up with us buying lots of stuff, mainly decorations for Christmas.

Then off to mums. We stayed for about 2 hours, last night our freezer sounded a little louder than usual and we ignored it, we came back from visiting mum to a very strange smell. I searched and searched I could not find anything, then it dawned on me, I could not hear the freezer motor, I opened up the freezer and found all the food completely defrosted and a puddle of water in the bottom of the freezer, I tried to ring the insurance company and eventually got through only to be told the contents of the freezer were not covered, so I have to throw them away and right them off. Good job it did not happen in a few weeks time really or it would have ruined Christmas. Off I trundle to Currys where eventually I was served by a man who could quiet easily have been an escaped chimp from the zoo. I maintain a chimp would have been more polite and helpful too.!

The afternoon saw me trying to sort out new insurance, will pop to the bank on Monday and see what they are able to offer me before buying a new policy.

The evening we were supposed to be going out for a meal, that would have worked out great given the fact we now have no food in the house right now apart from the defrosted unusable stuff that is. However the friends have called off due to illness. Looks like we might have to have beans on toast or something as a result now.

20th November 2009

This morning started off dull and well quiet frankly wet, the news was full of doom and gloom following heavy rain, there was flooding, not here in or around Bristol but it has caused loss of property and life with the flood damage.

As the day went on it has got drier, well at least here in Bristol anyway. Mrs W went out with her carer this morning into Bristol shopping, she was very good and did not over spend, something I always dread, but then I guess all men do, when their partners go shopping, right?

While she was at Bristol I carried out two mystery visits to a couple of banks nearby, both were very good, almost too good. Sometimes I wonder if the scenarios we get given are a dead give away to the staff and they clock onto the mystery visits. I could be wrong and they could just be darn good in their job and service standards too.

Today is Children in need day, where many people do strange and silly things to raise money for a worthy cause. My daughter is knocking on local residents door and offering them the chance to Give her a pie in the face for a donation. I obligingly donated and gave her the first pie in the face, I reckon she liked it really a face full of cream, what girl wouldn't

Thursday, 19 November 2009

19th November 2009

Today, started off with the usual, breakfast in bed for Mrs W, school run for the children, shopping in the supermarket before it became manic. Then waiting, waiting and waiting for people who made appointments to call upon us. Not one made the effort to contact us to let us know they would not be calling upon us after all. A wasted morning and a very annoying situation to be left in too.

Went out to the local shops looking for last minute Christmas decorations as the next couple of weeks I will be turning the house into the usual festive grotto. Lights, trimmings and real tree this year as for the first time in years we are home for Christmas day.

The evening sees me taking daughter and a friend to football training, I can see I am wearing the dad's taxi uniform again,!

Then it is home to rest with a heat pack and painkillers as my Sciatica is still playing up from standing for two hours at the Weston carnival on Monday night. I have been resting it, but I find it gets worse as the day progresses and eases during the evening. But I fail to see how I can stop using it during the day, with all the care and driving I have to carry out.

18th November 2009

The carers have been and gone, I managed to complete 2 mystery visits today, one in a prestige clothes shop in Cabot Circus. The other in a bank in Kingswood. Then it was time for lunch today was fish and chips!. Mrs W had her regular afternoon nap and I sat watching the afternoon television, before picking the children up from school.

I have been to a few local charity shops and purchased more stuff which is selling nicely on EBay. I also have some more stuff to list in a short while too.

My Sciatica is still bothering me and I am now back on the painkillers and anti inflammatory tablets for a while until it gets somewhat easier.

While in Bristol I had a wander round the German market that has taken up residence for the next few weeks or so. They have several wooden huts and one central hut with a large feature on top, said to be a traditional item, smaller versions deck the tops of trees apparently, I was intrigued by it and took a picture of it and one of the large reindeer that are part of the lights in Bristol and Cabot Circus.

Tuesday, 17 November 2009

17th November 2009

Following last night at Weston Carnival, today has been the usual mundane school run, shopping, post office run for EBay parcels. Mrs W and I went out to a pub for lunch, nothing major, just a meal for £2.99 and a dessert for £2.00. I enjoyed my dessert, since my "diet" or "healthy living" attempts I rarely have a dessert and I made the most of it today.

Standing on the carnival route has aggravated my sciatica and I have been in agony as a result, I took my painkillers and anti inflammatory tablets and ended up taking to bed for two hours this afternoon.

Looking forward to watching the television programme I'm a celebrity get me out of here, which we all sit and watch, it was and is, so nice to have a television programme we all sit and watch, it becomes one of the only times we all sit as a family now a days, the children tend to spend more and more time in their rooms on the games machines or watching television in their room, so it is a real treat they actually want to sit with "mum and dad" to watch anything at all.

16TH November 2009

After all the usual carers, school runs, post office runs and all the mundane daily grind, we made a choice to head off to Weston carnival, glad we did, it was perfect, warm weather, dry and spectacular floats, costumes and feeling. We went last year and it poured down for the duration. We arrived earlier than last year, found a parking spot easily enough, headed to the starting point of the parade, which made it all the more interesting as we could see the judges marking the floats, applauding them as they left and all the hustle and bustle of the marshals too. There was of course the obligatory portion of chips for us all while we sat watching the parade. We stayed until around 9pm and arrived home at around 10pm. Photos of the night can be seen here on my facebook pages.

14th and 15th November 2009

Sorry for the late posting of the blog, have been busy chasing fence panels, security lights, dustbins and garden furniture round the garden due to the storm yesterday, needless to say we will end up repairing both fences as neither neighbours take responsibility for either of the fences, it is a long story, but basically on one side which is our neighbours fence we put a fence up years ago because all that was there was a wire fence, not strong enough to keep the children in or anyone out, so now as a result that is our fence. On the other side, which should be our fence, the neighbours but up a 6 ft fence to keep their dog in, it is on their side of the boundary, I know this as the original boundary fence post are still there in situation. The new landlord refuses to acknowledge that fact and insists it is our responsibility so we now by default seem to own both fences, with the neighbours owning none!, also a year ago we had some lovely new cladding put on the house by the council. They put a nice new security light on the rear wall to illuminate the garden due to there being a public footpath to the rear, no longer used now but at one time it was open to anyone so it was felt it was more secure to have a light. And over the weekend it has been blown off the wall, probably due to the fact it was only put up on the property with one screw!.

Today sees a lull and calm returns, not sure for how long as there is more forecast today. I hope we manage to play the game of football scheduled for this morning, I say we, I do of course refer to my daughter and her football team, they are steadily rising the table in the league and stand a very good chance of making it to number 1 for a third year running and a win today will only increase their chances of doing so.

This afternoon will see us visiting Mrs W's mum for the regular Sunday tea. then we shall return and watch the long awaited Dr Who and I'm a Celebrity get me out of here, two programs all in the house enjoy and watch avidly.

13th November Friday feeling

Today started off with the usual breakfast routine, waking the children up several times for school. Then the carers came in and took care of Mrs W. While one of the carers were here I walked around the local charity shops. Not alot of stuff going cheap enough to resell on EBay, but I managed to find some items. Speaking of which I had to offer my first refunds on EBay today, 2 of them on the same day, Friday the 13th feeling number 1.

The weather has been nasty today too, I got soaked several times out and about, it would rain heavier when I was out in it, I have a feeling it was waiting for me to step out the front door before doing its best to soak me through to the skin, Friday 13th feeling number 2.

The football coach has taken on 2 new players, fine, but I have to edit my spread sheet for subs, not too much hassle, then, I realise I had already purchased the teams football presents for Christmas. Went to the local store I made my original purchase from and to my horror they had sold out of the items I had got for the other team members, so I had to travel about 5 miles extra to purchase 2 more. Friday 13th feeling number 3.

I also noticed the car had an unusual light on the dashboard, never seen it before, looked in the manual and it means I have to arrange a service for the car, not too much of a problem as it is due for an M.O.T soon, so they can do them both together. But the manual says I should take it to the garage as soon as possible, well what is that? tomorrow,? today,? next week,? Friday 13th feeling number 4.

To top off our friday feeling during the night in the winds we lost 3 fence panels, 1 security light and the bin blew over hitting the car, luckily no damage though friday 13th feeling number 5, the most expensive of them all.

Thursday, 12 November 2009

12th November 2009

Today has been a leisurely day, no mystery shops, no audits, no carers either. A few more items sold on Ebay today too.

I spent a few moments walking round the various charity shops this morning and picked up a few bargains to re sell.

The weather seemed to take a turn for the worst this afternoon too, we were going to go and see the Christmas light switch on in Cabot Circus but I think if it keeps like this we shall give it a miss.
I hope the weather holds out for Monday as it is the Carnival at Weston Super Mare then. Another family tradition leading up to Christmas. One we enjoy too.

I took Mrs W out to our favourite Italian pizzeria for a spot of lunch too. We also brought some items to put into small brown envelopes, not buying the children an advent calendar this year instead we are filling numbered envelopes for them to open daily during the countdown to Christmas.

Tonight sees the usual weekly football training session for my daughter and that means putting on my Treasurer hat on, I must become more firm with the parents, trouble is I find it hard to keep on at them as they are also my friends too. But I know if they do not pay their subs then the club might cease as a result.

11th November 2009 Rememberance Day

Today has been somewhat emotional it is remembrance day today on the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month we remember all those who have given so much to save us from all kinds of evil dictatorship and evils. I have also had plenty of time to remember all those who I have lost too during my life time,

Some times I have thought of some who I wish had not been taken in such a cruel way, today has been a roller coaster of feelings, thoughts, highs and lows.

I have found myself crying for no reason, the next all glassy eyed and feeling choked, today has been a day full of emotion everywhere we go, the television, the social networking sites, the pubs, the shops, the schools, I pray that none of us forget the pain, the suffering the blood shed the loss of life.

I pray that the children find the respect for the generations who have fought and died for their future, so that they too might bring children into the world knowing it to be a safer world.

Every war brings peace, but to obtain peace there will and always will be blood shed, so long as man is alive there will always be war, words alone do not bring peace, if they did the world would be a more happy place.

There are treaty's that bring peace. They say the pen is mightier than the sword. Is there truth in that?

I was not around for the 1st and 2nd world war, but I do recall watching the Falklands conflict. Seeing the carnage and loss of life, the Argentines some of them so young, so terrified of fighting. I know our troops felt the same, but, I do not recall seeing the images of that. I pray that we do not end up a nation prepared to fight for anything and everything.

I do understand why the likes of the BNP are actually gaining support, I am not a supporter of theirs, but, I do have a feeling we are losing this country, I hear and see so many upsetting stories, from my children. I also watch current affairs. I do not pretend that I understand everything, I question the motives of these people, but I also have to wonder why there is so much apathy and upset in this country.

My son made an interesting observation, out of the mouths of babes as they say. He said. "two thirds of Britain speak a foreign language, yet one third can speak English".

I have to wonder sometimes if all the blood shed was worth it, would those who fought to keep us free and from dictatorship all those years ago and indeed recently be happy at the state of Britain and indeed the world?

I recall also seeing the Berlin wall come down, I saw the news programs following the East Berlin people and how unhappy they had become at becoming westerners and in the process of democracy, how has it all gone so wrong? I have not voted for so long. So I am not in a position to voice my opinion out loud therefore I do not get into politics any-more. The reason I gave up my vote?. Apathy. in my situation every party wants to stop my benefit, my wife's too. We are always under fire from every party. So I made a choice not to vote.

I pray that who ever where ever stay safe, sound, happy and lives a life that we and they will always remember them for.

10th November 2009

This morning saw another dull and dismal start to the day, again it never really brightened up. I had no mystery visits today, just aswell as Mrs W broke her glasses and we spent most of the morning trying to mend them, in the end it meant a visit to the opticians to purchase another pair! expense we could well do without this time of year.

Still the EBay auctions are moving along at a great pace! yet another 18 parcels posted today. Some of the items have been going for what I consider silly amounts. I never really knew I had something worth so much to someone else! but I am glad I do now!,well I did until they sold that is!.

The extra income has meant I have been able to purchase a few surprises for the rest of the family too, I cannot say what yet in-case they are reading the blog. But I am glad that I will be able to give them something unexpected for Christmas.

We all went to the dentist this evening too, for our six monthly check, glad to say that even at my age I still only have the one filling, which I don't think that is too bad really?! Here is to not having a filling for a few more years yet too.

Monday, 9 November 2009

09th November 2009

This morning and for most of the day we have been under a blanket of mist and fog, probably due to the weekends celebrations of bonfire night parties I suspect, the sun never shone through and it seemed so dark with it too. It also became remarkably colder in feel too. Not as cold in feel as last November if I recall however!

I had a coffee shop to mystery visit today, part of a major chain of them, I had to mark them down as to be honest it was not very clean, the food was greasy and the coffee seemed very strong in flavour to the point the spoon could have stood upright in it.

I have also been to the post office twice today with some 30 parcels that have been purchased over the weekend and today. Seems I have lots that people want at the moment, also some items are fetching more than the usual 99p too. I have a feeling this could be people looking for cheaper alternatives for Christmas gifts.

08th November 2009

This morning saw my daughters football team stomp to a further victory, pushing them further up their league onwards to victory possibly?

After the mornings football I returned home where I worked on the football teams video further. Updated their facebook page and submitted and updated the subs spread sheet.

After all the excitement of the football and all the chores that go with it. We had a visit from my mum in law. We treated her and of course ourselves to a Dominos Pizza. She stayed for a couple of hours and then we were sat watching the Sunday television. I am sure it is getting worse than the Saturday night programs too!.

We have also started clearing clutter, moving furniture and organizing where the Christmas tree will be situated this year. It turned out I have been a bit of a hoarder with paperwork being thrown out from around 3 years ago! I must learn to throw things out in future I think!!

07th November 2009

Well the weather was certainly kind to us last night, it held off raining until after the firework party for the girls from BLUfc. The bonfire went well with the neighbours from hell threatening to call the fire brigade and police as we had not told them we were having a bonfire! on bonfire weekend, I cannot imagine what was going through his doped up frazzled brain. Despite that we went ahead and needless to say he didn't call the fire brigade or the police.

I woke up rather later than planned this morning, infact a good hour later, making me late for the rest of the day. I carried out the usual duties of visiting my grandmother and mum in the morning. The afternoon saw some friends pop in for a coffee. We have some friends popping around tonight too. Still it is better than watching the usual rubbish on Saturday night television.

Ebay has once again proved popular with people this weekend, with several surprisingly big sales! some items I really did not think would sell too.

06th November 2009

After a relatively quiet night on the firework front last night I suspect tonight and Saturday night will be slightly busier due to it being the weekend, I know we for one are holding a firework party tonight instead of last night and I suspect many more will be doing the same.

Today I have a mystery visit to carry out in a branch of a bank, I also need to purchase lots of padded envelopes, Ebay seems to be taking off and I am running out of suitable ones to post items off.

The afternoon saw lots of praying for the firework party tonight and a wander round the charity shops for bargain items to re sell on EBay, which is becoming more and more difficult as even the charity shops seem to be increasing their prices too. Might have to venture to a few car boot sales I think, see what I can pick up there.

Well the weather has been sort of kind and preparations for the firework party are going ahead, we have a bonfire, fireworks, hot-dogs and burgers. Plenty of soft drinks and sparklers too. I just hope the rain holds off after all this preparation. The fire is due to be lit at 6pm I also have bags of marshmallows for toasting on the fire later too. oh and hot chocolate too.

05th November 2009

Been a quiet day considering, I expected loud bangs, whistles and crashes tonight, really it has been quiet. Not heard many fireworks. there have been a few but not as many as in previous years at all.

Today we went to Cabot Circus and Broadmead and started and finished our Christmas shopping too. All presents purchased as well as those who have birthdays coming up too!.

Had a day of no mystery visits or audits today, as we were Christmas shopping. I seriously think the credit crunch is still hurting many people, there seems to be less activity on the fireworks front, Halloween was quiet round here too.

04th November 2009

Today saw me carry out 2 mystery visits to a bank, both branches for the same bank, I like the bank ones, they cost me nothing to carry out. I always get back what I spend on others, but there is something more rewarding about walking into a bank and knowing I am going to get paid for it, rather than them fleecing me for a change!.

I also had to carry out a mystery visit in a supermarket too, yet more free groceries for us all, well actually I brought sausages, onions, bread rolls and burgers for our football teams bonfire night I am hosting on Friday. Another free celebration, well food wise anyway, the fireworks have cost me a small fortune.

Mrs W went out Christmas shopping with the carer and made a very good start on the present front too, we have to carry on tonight and tomorrow during the daytime. I hope to be finished before everything really gets going. I like going to town and shopping centres just to see the lights and sample the various events they host, without the hassle of Christmas shopping.

Will soon be taking delivery of our Christmas hampers too, another chore done when they arrive, no food shopping to worry about. Although I am still buying bits and pieces and putting them away for the festive season. I have also been saving with the Christmas savings clubs at varying supermarkets so as we wont notice the expense that will always come with the festive season.

I have to say, I have already placed an order for Christmas 2010 and am already paying them so I can have a stress free one next year too. Some might say that is madness, but it does make my life alot more stress free and hassle free too. In January I always buy cards, crackers and wrapping paper too. Sometimes I buy some reduced gift sets too. Put them away and then inevitably forget about them!.

03rd November 2009

Today saw the usual manic school run, the traffic in Bristol is becoming more hectic and slow, the nearer to Christmas we get, of course it does not help the fact we have to head the same way as Christmas shoppers and commuters to get to the children's school!. I got back from the school run and a shop at a supermarket nearby, gone 9am a good half hour later than usual.

Today saw my store audits for the mobile phone company after a bit of a break and I could see why as when I entered the stores they had all had a refit to some extent, some were more recognizable than others. There seemed to be an air of importance and respect to the stores too, something that had been missing for a while. I think the refit has helped boost the staff moral too.

This afternoon I had to assess a large supermarket not far from the school so I commenced this before the school run, I was able to use the visit to buy some food for the firework party for the BLUfc girls football team, this coming Friday. I know Thursday is the 5th of November but, usually that would be a training night. However it seems not this week as they are now with out a pitch to train on due to rising costs. So it seems we would have been al-right for Thursday after all, but plans have been made and I am not about to re make them.

Last night I purchased some sparklers and rockets as a last half term treat for the children. They loved it. Not sure the neighbours did though, but then i am not too worried about the neighbours from hell and the ones we get on with came out and watched them anyway.

2nd November 2009

Today sees the last day of half term, well actually in service day or as they call it now an inset day. Teachers training day, like they need another day off!. The carers came in as usual to assist Mrs W with hygiene and care, as well as house work. While they were here I had the usual post office run to do with my EBay auctions. Then it was a browse of the charity shops to find more stuff that could make me a small but welcome profit!.

We took the children to a two for one pub for some lunch, on the way home we stopped off and purchased a small fortune in fireworks, rockets and sparklers, we shall have some tonight a few days early then on Friday the 6th November we have my daughters football team round for more, we would have had them on the Thursday but that night is training night. We came home and Mrs W had her nap while the children and I played on the PS3.

This evening I have one mystery visit to carry out in a fast food burger take away, this time a drive thru. I have now started back on mystery shopping and store audits, I am finally feeling much better and the cough and infection of the chest seem to have much improved. Just as well as I have a feeling the next few months will be a little on the busy side, with various events and celebrations a foot!.

1st November 2009

Well after all the Halloween talk, trick or treaters, fireworks and funfair last night, today has been a quiet but very windy and damp affair. The sun only made an appearance after mid day, with the morning being dark.

I went to the local supermarket early morning, well as early as you can on a Sunday. Purchased a ready cooked chicken, so all I have to cook were the potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and vegetables. A lazy Sunday roast, but equally as tasty and good value for money for the four of us too.

The afternoon saw the PS3 being used again while Mrs W had her afternoon nap. We are also going to Mrs w's mum for sunday afternoon tea. Should get to see baby Brooke finally after all this time. Each time we have arranged something one or more of us has been ill and it was thought better of meeting especially with the new born baby around, it means finally she will get the birth sampler that I had made for her detailing her name, date of birth and birth weight etc. My mum made it, well cross stitched the kit I brought and then we had it professionally framed as a gift for her bedroom.

31st October 2009 Halloween

This morning started off with another mild day for the time of year and the usual visits to my mum and my nan. The children are full of excitement for Halloween and all the merriment that goes with it. The afternoon saw myself listing yet more stuff on EBay for my mum. Mrs W had her nap and our daughter went to the cinema with our friend. Our son went out and had his hair cut in preparation for him going to his friends for a Halloween party. He is staying out tonight sleeping over. Mrs W myself daughter and her friend are off to nearby Yate where they have a big fun fair. Fireworks and fancy dress event for Halloween. Should be fun.

I have lit the pumkin lamp that my duaghter made and it sits on the dining table glowing it's spooky face.

I have not brought any sweets for the trick or treaters instead I have placed a notice advising them, there is no treat here for them. I hate being mugged on my own door step by teenagers who make no effort to dress for the occasion so as a result I am not entertaining any of it this year. Anycase I won't be here anyway.

30th October 2009

How mild!. the weather lately seems to be completely screwed. This time last year we were having snow, ice. Rain and all kinds of weird weather patterns. This autumn so far seems to have been fairly mild to say the very least. I am still seeing people roaming the streets in shorts and t-shirts. Not that I am, I can honestly say I am at least wearing a jumper to keep me a little warm with my recent chest infection. But I have to say that, the weather is indeed mild for the time of year!

This morning saw a little lay in following one of the care agencies not sending a carer today due to staff shortages. The other sent a carer in to carry our house working tasks out as normal. I had a mystery visit in a bank to carry out then I was looking for Halloween decorations to add the those we already have, however I was unsuccessful in my search, (note to self ) do not leave it so late next year!.

The afternoon has been a lazy one on the PS3 with the children and their friend from next door. The competition is a hard fought one to say the very least. With suggestions of how to beat the zombies flying round the room at each other. Some with more success than others.
I am also supposed to be decorating the house with the spooky decorations and such but the PS3 is a bit of a distraction and as yet I have not managed to get anything up!

Tonight will be the usual television I suspect however myself and Mrs W might pop out as the children are going out to their uncles for a spot of tea and to see their cousin Brooke, who is now eight weeks old or there about. I haven't seen her as we have been ill and one thing or another timings just have not matched up.

29th october 2009

Had a great afternoon yesterday, my son taught me how to play on the PS3. I nearly beat him on the game too, much to his annoyance. He smuggle y said. "well done, you are surprisingly good".
I have got my flu jab today, I have it due to my asthma and the fact I am a full time carer. In due course I will be offered the swine flu jab too, I was told it might have been offered the same time as the flu jab, I guess I will have to wait and find out. I was due to have it last week, but if you recall I have been and still am suffering with a chest infection and the doctor felt I was too ill for it last week when Mrs W had hers.

We have made a good start on Christmas shopping now, with many presents being brought and some even wrapped, along with Christmas cards written too. I have wrapping and writing presents and cards, so the sooner it is done the better in my book. The post workers are again on strike. This probably means the post will be very late anyway, I know some of my friends and family have already said they won't be sending Christmas cards this year and are going to send "Christmas Emails" instead. They are also sending documents that can be sent electronically now too, rather than rely on the postal service. I personally feel that the strike action is doing more harm than good!. Especially with the blame game that seems to be going on between the two sides involved.

I have also got to purchase a Pumpkin ready for carving, a tradition we have been doing with the children for many years now, Halloween we decorate the house in ghouls and ghosts. Then we light lots of candles and a carved pumpkin lantern too. There is something about the house when lit by candle light too, the smell is lovely and very relaxing I find too.

Last night we had our first small but welcome win on the National Lotto too, we got three numbers for £10 and on lotto hot-picks I chose 1 number correctly for £5, that is today's groceries and electric paid for I guess. Just a shame it was not more.

28th October 2009

Today has been a really lazy day. The children were at Mrs W's mums overnight. I had to pick them up mid morning, the carers came and helped MRs W one took her shopping, the other helped with her personal care.

While Mrs W was shopping I went to Yate with the children. Had a few things to buy for EBay, mainly envelopes.

Came home and watched a film, filed my report from the earlier mystery visit and played on the WII with my children.

We took the children out to lunch to our local pub too. The afternoon saw Mrs W having a nap.
The children spent a while holding and talking to the new cockatiel.

The evening sees us watching telly and sitting doing not alot, It does us all good to have days of doing nothing.

27th October 2009

Well here we are with some 59 days left until Christmas. I have made a start on wrapping presents last night, 13 of them for my daughters football team, we also wrote out 13 cards too. I have been stock piling Christmas goodies, the kind you eat that is, even got the tree chocolates too. Had a really great time at Cadbury garden center yesterday, this seems to have put me into Christmas preperation mode!. I have even placed and started paying for an order for Christmas 2010 from Park hampers. I find it a great way to save for Christmas. (The pic is of my Daughter stood by one of the displays at Cadbury)

The Cockatiel(Ben) has settled in nicely and is already sitting on our hand, if only for a short period of time. At least it is not hissing and doing the usual manic defence things they can do in the wild. We had one years ago, it was a complete physco! nearly took your fingers off when you put your hands in the cage!

The morning will be a leisurely one as there is no school for the children for week as it is half term. They are being collected and taken to their nans over night, giving myself and Mrs W a brief break from them. They will be back tomorrow around mid day.

We are going to go and see some friends who live in Stroud. He has just had an operation on his foot following an infection, they are trying to save him losing his whole foot. Then the evening we have friends calling round for a drink. Will be nice to meet up with them all today, without worrying about waking the children up. I do not have any mystery visits today. I have been taking things slowly, I am still suffering with a chest infection and breathing troubles, I just cannot seem to shift it. I am now on my second batch of anti-biotics too!

Monday, 26 October 2009

26th October 2009

Today saw the usual breakfast for Mrs W in bed, the carers came in and took care of her giving me some respite. The morning was taken up with shopping and mystery visiting a bank. Then back home and off to Cadbury Garden Center to look at the Christmas items and to purchase a cockatiel, I have been threatening too since August on my 40th. We finally got one today, an early christmas pressie for me from Mrs W.

The afternoon saw me watching television and keeping an eye on the new addition to the family. I also went to the local shops and purchased the whole of BLU fc girls team a christmas gift and card each too, no mean task I can tell ya. It is so hard chosing something that they should all like!

While at Cadbury I took in the many christmas ideas, displays and items for sale. I love the place, full of charm magic and enchantment. Truely wonderful as a child and still magic as an adult!.

25th October 2009

Well it is final, we are now in British Winter time, last night saw the endless task of putting all the clocks back by one glorious hour!, one extra hour in bed, the only trouble is, that it took me an hour to put all the clocks back, so, what have I gained?

Anyway, everyone was going on about how wonderful it would be to have an extra hour in bed, I wish someone had told my body clock that, I woke up at 6.30am! wide awake and ready for the day!. nice to see the mornings a little brighter though. Not so much of an effort to get out of the nice warm bed.

This morning saw my mum in law pop round to check out our new three piece suite. She stopped about an hour, we then had some lunch and Mrs W went to bed for her regular hours sleep, the children and I sat watching a film on television.

This evening sees us heading out to a pub for a friends birthday, haven't been to the pub before and Mrs W is feeling a little anxious about mixing with a large group of people she hardly knows, she feels that due to her disability they will be talking about her and not like her and such.
This is of course not the case. I and the children have tried and tried to make her aware that people are not like that, there are only a small minority that would even consider belittling her in such a way.

24th October 2009

Today has been a hectic and chaotic one, first up early to collect the sofa in the hire van, much fun and games getting the sofa into the van from the house, then drove it to our place, had a hell of a job getting the old sofa out of our place and into the rear garden for the time being. Then to get the new suite into the house, this proved a mountainess task lots of other furniture to move, casters to remove, it was that or doors!

After the suite fiasco, it was on for a flying visit to my nan and mum, havent been for a few weeks so really did need to pay them a visit. I had to put my nans central heating clock back as she can never do it right. Despite having the system for many years, she still struggles to set it correctly. After my nan it was onto my mum, where I duely downed four cups of coffee following a stressful morning, I left her place buzzing with caffiene.

Then it was retunr home to finally sort out the new suite and take the van back, the van I had to pay a whole day for but only used it for less than 1 hour, damn weekend rates!. I then browsed some charity shops and picked up a few items for my auctions and some bargain ex woolworths Christmas cards too.

The afternoon has since been spent trying to sort out a suddenly developing PC problem, one that is really beginning to annoy the hell out of me, so much so I can feel the Blood Pressure and stress rising to a point where I could actually throw the damn thing out of the window, bringing a new meaning to Windows !!!!.

This evening will be spent google searching yet more options to sort out the PC problem and watching the Saturday night television. Sometimes I really do wonder how some of the progammes actually get onto our screens, they are nothing more than complete rubbish and time filling rubbish at that!.

23rd October 2009

Woke up still feeling awful, but better than the last few days. Got Mrs some breakfast and sat and watched the news while eating breakfast. Then I took the little darlings to school. Popped into Tesco for shopping and then made my way home. Yes the carers both arrived on time to help Mrs W with her care and the housework as usual. On time too, which is unusual. I do feel sorry for them sometimes, they are under so much pressure from the agencies to get more and more clients fitted in each day. On my return home i had some parcels to post at the post office, yes I know it wont go anywhere due to the industrial action at the moment, but, they are at least out of the house and sort of on their way to my customers.

I have one mystery shopping visit today, the first one in a few days due to being ill. It is in a pet store chain. Following which, I will take our first pub meal out and then we have to go to a car dealership to make a choice of Motability car which we will take possession of at the end of January 2010. We have opted to go for a Citroen Berlingo this time round, Mrs W tends to take up so much space when we travel, with a wheelchair, walking frame and power pack etc. So we thought the bigger the car the better. The Astra we have currently is on the small side for our needs.

The afternoon I will try and get some rest before collecting the little darlings from school, then prepare some tea and pick up the hire van to collect the three piece that is being given to us for free, trouble is I have to pick it up on Saturday morning at 9am. This means I have to hire the van for a whole day, which is not cheap, had I been able to pick it up in the week, I could have had a van for a fraction of the cost. I will then sit with a drink and watch the television.

Thursday, 22 October 2009

22nd October 2009

This morning saw me getting a lay in after waking up the children for school, I felt rough. I still do. I spoke to a few very good people on twitter n facebook then took Mrs W for her flu jab. I then sat and watched some television while she had her afternoon nap, I wrapped yet more items ready to post that have been won on EBay, I of course cannot send them as there is no postal service due to the first of a two day strike. I charged up the electric key and the gas key and sat snuggled on the sofa watching a film on sky, while sipping hot chocolate and cuppa soups, not at the same time you understand, that would just be wrong!

Tonight should be my daughters football teams practice night, but with the nights drawing in lately, actually this weekend the clocks go back, they postponed it as they were only getting around 30 minutes training. Next week is half term so training will be earlier, the following week we move to astro turf under floodlights, so things will or should be back to normal.

As there is no football training this means I can kick off my shoes and snuggle up under a blanket and watch the television right?. wrong, the family still need looking after and helping even though I feel like crap. That is the one of only a minority of pitfalls of being a carer, even if you are ill, you must still try and keep going, there is no real break for you, sometimes it becomes very tiring. Of course because I am ill, it will take longer to recover as I am not getting the rest that is needed to make a full recovery as quickly as I could. Yes I get to rest on the sofa while Mrs W is in bed during the afternoon, but it is not like going and sleeping sound in bed and letting nature sweat it out of you is it. I could go to bed when Mrs W does, but I feel somehow wrong. That is and always has been her time to rest.

Wednesday, 21 October 2009

21st October 2009

Well, last night was certainly interesting. The neighbours from hell next door were in the street fighting. The police came and there was much a do out there. My son was watching from the bedroom window and giving me updates, I got curious and went upstairs, despite feeling cold and having a mother of coughs. I took a couple of photos and had a good response on twitter and facebook when I posted them. If you cannot live with each other then don't. We do not want to hear your arguments, especially late at night and in the street.

I have finally succumb to the cough, it has gone to my chest causing all kinds of trouble for my asthma too. I feel so tired and aching all over too. I went to the Doctor and she put me on steroids and anti biotic as well as the usual inhalers. She advised me not to have my flu jab tomorrow, as planned, but to go next week when I should feel a lot better. I am taking Mrs W for hers tomorrow as planned, mine is not until next week now. She also told me that I will be entitled to the swine flu vaccine too, once they have it in the surgery.

I am not carrying out any mystery visits, I have cancelled them for the next few days to give me lots of time to try and rest and fight the infection. I am watching some movies, drinking plenty of hot drinks, OXO cube dissolved in hot water seems to go down well right now, it might sound weird but, it is very nice actually.

Tuesday, 20 October 2009

20th October 2009

Today has been a miserable day, the weather has taken a turn and become rather autumnal. It has been raining most of the day and talk about dark! it could almost be night time. Some of the schools round here have already broken up for their half term, our children break up the end of this week, two weeks of rowing, shouting and mayhem to look forward to, great! The central heating has been given a bit of a work out too, at last, the first real time it has been used to its full extent since February when we had the cold snap and snows.

Today I had two mystery shopping assignments, one in a bank, the other in a supermarket nearby too, they went well and we have yet more free groceries. They all come in useful and I can buy what I like so they will get used.

The bird table has been busy again with wood pigeons, collard doves and squirrels too. They seem to be growing in numbers, but still not many other garden birds, I must look into getting more foods to attract more species to the garden and the feeding station. With winter coming in fast, I don't think it will be long before I get my wishes anyhow.

This afternoon I sat watching a movie, while writing the blog and filing my mystery visit reports, they don't take long to fill in once you are used to what the companies want from you, but they are possibly the hardest part about mystery shopping as spelling has to be correct, timings right etc etc. Sometimes they ask for further information if you do not add enough, this can hold up payment, so I find it is best to add as much as I can before submitting for proof reading and thus resulting in payment as speedily as possible.

Monday, 19 October 2009

19th october 2009

Well the free three peice suite is costing us a fortune in a van hire, £60 in total for a van for the whole day that I only need for 1 hour! all because it is a weekend that I am able to pick up the suite, if it had been monday to wednesday I could have had a van for one hour for £6.

Anyway enough grumbling, today has seen the carers in to assist with Mrs W and do the housework for us, I had to go to the post office with some 14 parcels that had been sold on my EBay page, then off to Cribbs Causeway to an electrical store for a mystery shopping visit, which was actually a pleasure to carry out, the service suprisingly refreshing.

The afternoon I have been sat stuffing my face with Ritz crackers and some marshmallows after a lovely carvery at the Toby in Almondsbury.

This evening will involve a mystery visit at a burger take away followed by watching the usual mind numbing television that is broadcast on the various channels we have since the digital revolution that is Sky, what a load of rubbish they broadcast, some 300 channels all broadcasting CRAP!
